A Forget-me-Not romance. Forget-me-Not is the historical section of the Point Romance imprint, which consists of romantic stories for teenagers.
Lily Cobbett is a dreamer. She has one talent. She is a singer. Her family are living in poverty and she supports them first by busking and later by singing in the theatre. Although they need the money she brings in her family try to stop her. Her mother thinks she should be doing something more genteel. Eventually they come to accept her singing. But Lily still has problems. There is friction between her and Billy Morgan whom she has known for years and she becomes involved with a young soldier Ned Gates. But, true to the genre, all comes right in the end.
Set in the London of 1899. The background of the London theatres has been carefully researched and -- something I always like to see -- the author has included a short historical note. The romantic parts are tactfully handled and chaste kisses are as far as anyone goes. About 60,000 words long.
This series should appeal to teenage girls and help to introduce them to historical novels.
