Roy Apps

Roy writes both books and television scripts. Including scripts for well known programmes like Byker Grove.

Stacia Deutsch and Rhody Cohon

Stacia and Rhody are working on a series of books for children in the seven to eleven age group. Abigail and her friends have a very unusual history teacher. He does not just tell them about the past. He has a time machine and he actually takes them back into history. No wonder his class just love their history lessons! Teresa Eckford

Teresa is a member of the Romance Writers Association. She is very interested in the Middle Ages and many of her books are set in medieval times. She also reviews historical fiction.

She has a very large site with lots of pages useful for historical research. She also has pages about her native Canada -- and Ottawa. Last, but certainly not least, there are photographs of her with her family -- and cats.

Dennis Hamley

Dennis has written over fifty books for children -- both fiction and non fiction. Among his fiction books are the Joslin de Lay series of medieval mysteries for young adults.

His site tells of the books he has written and also of those which are due to be published soon.

He also tells how he can be contacted to give talks in schools, colleges and libraries.

Frances Mary Hendry

Frances writes books for older children -- although many adults enjoy them too. She has written six books set in Scotland in past eras. These books include a trilogy about Mary Queen of Scots.

She has also branched out and has two books set in the legendary Atlantis. Her latest book deals with the evils of the seventeenth century slave trade.

Julia Jarman

Julia writes books for children. Some, but not all, are historical. She writes for all age groups. She also goes round schools giving talks to children.

Alan N. Kay

Alan is an award winning teacher. One of his awards was the Florida History Day Teacher of the Year, 2001.

He is at present working on a ten book series of books chronicling the fortunes of one family during the American Civil War. As well as information about his books, his site also contains detailed lesson plans and bibliographies and notes on resources.

A very useful site for anyone interested in the American Civil War.

Richard Platt

Richard has written a large number of books for children. Many of them are in the Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness series. He has also written two fiction stories for young children which are going to be reviewed on this site very soon.

Richard has also written a non fiction book for adults about smuggling. The complete text of this book is on his site where it can be read free.

Eileen Ramsay

Eileen has written many saga type novels for adults. For children she has also written a thrilling story set in nineteenth century Aberdeen -- Danger by Gaslight. This is reviewed in the Bibliography in the section Eighteenth Century -- Scotland and also in the section Scotland after 1800.

Joyce Stranger

Joyce has been writing for a long time. She has written novels for both adults and children. She is also a dog trainer and has written many books on how to train and look after a dog. Her site is linked to many of the best dog sites on the internet.

Theresa Tomlinson

Theresa has written many carefully researched historical novels for children. She is particularly interested in the position of women in history. Among her many books is a trilogy based on the Robin Hood legends -- told from a feminine viewpoint and with an original interpretation of Maid Marian. This is The Forestwife trilogy.

Theresa has now started writing for young adults. She has two books for this age group about the warrior women, the Amazons -- The Moonriders and The Snake Lady. For reviews see section on Ancient Greece.

Geoffrey Trease

Geoffrey Trease was one of the greatest writers of historical fiction for children in the twentieth century. A Geoffrey Trease Society is being planned and it is hoped that this Society will be able to bring back into print many of Geoffrey's outstanding books.

Ann Turnbull

Ann has written books for children of all age groups. She has now begun to write books for young adults. Many of her books are reviewed on this site.
