This is the story of Ely - the girl who did a service for the King who loved small dogs. Ely, a servant girl, returns to King Charles II one of his dogs which has been stolen. In so doing, she saves him from an assassination attempt.
The story is set in the Newmarket of 1683 and contrasts political
intrigue with seventeenth century domestic life. There are; highwaymen,
the mysterious 'Lady Eleanor,' and the terror of the 'Witchfinders'
- all under the sweeping East Anglian sky.
