Wee Sammy Chihuahua

1973 - 1984

I got Sammy when he was a three month old pup. After he had taught me how to look after and care for a dog, and once we had got to know each other I took him to the local dog class and I started to learn about dog training. The local class was just a starting point. I did all I could to widen my horizons. For example I read all I could.

I wanted a wider experience and, eventually, when he was five years old, I entered him in Pre-beginners, Beginners and Novice in open Obedience Shows. Sammy was not interested in retrieving but I struggled on and I managed to persuade him to bring back his tiny dumb-bell.

We had a year together competing in Obedience shows but Sammy was not really suited to Obedience and I decided to retire him and just let him potter around the house.

But Sammy had introduced me to the fascinating world of dogdom and I wanted to stay in Obedience. I was determined to stick to a small breed and I decided on a Papillon and Sammy was joined by Dusty. But that is another story.

Sammy, you taught me such a lot.
