Solway Photographs --- Criffel.
Criffel is the highest hill at the western end of the Scottish side of the Solway. It is 569 metres high. The name is of Viking origin. It means Crow's Hill -- the fel part being the same as in the Lake District Fells.
Criffel features prominently in Ghost Dog of the Solway.
Up until the twentieth century the Solway was a busy shipping lane and it was claimed that a granite rock high up on Criffel would flash silver in the sun and form a landmark for sailors far out at sea.
Here is a selection of photographs of Criffel.
