A COPY OF MY LETTER TO PUBLISHERS...
Dear Madam/Sir, I am sending the attached files in the hope that it is acceptable nowadays to avoid sending hard copies of manuscripts and to communicate faster. I am French and have lived in Britain for 14 years, firstly as a student for a year, then as a Language Tutor for a year, a Modern Foreign Language Assisstant for 2 years, a bilingual mother for 11 years, a Primary school teacher for 7 years. My original purpose when I decided to train as a teacher was to teach French to Primary school children. This only came to fulfilment last year when some schools became aware that there was an urgency attached to the 2010 deadline for Primary schools to offer a Modern Foreign Language as part of the curriculum. So I gave up full time teaching and started working locally, which has been the source of a long-awaited job satisfaction. I now work in Sidmouth Primary School, where French is taught, throughout the key stages, either by myself or through the regular class teachers. This is to be applied this year to my second school, St Nicholas Junior School in Sidmouth. As a teacher and co-ordinater, I am presently in an ideal position to know what resources are available to schools and to learners, as well as what their general needs are. I am certain that there is a need for the sort of bilingual book that I offer because I have checked out what is available and find that there is not enough encouragement to progress in the resources already out there. I doubt whether anyone, presented with a book, which offers a printed translation next to the original text (parallel text), will make much progress in the target language. An example of this is La chasse a l'ours/We're going on a bear hunt, by M. Rosen. These books are, of course, an invaluable source of pleasure for learners that are already proficient. But Interactive Learning is an essential point that must be developed and made more available. I am looking for a publisher who will shere my forward-looking principles and be willing to help me develope not just the present Bambie series, but also the next (starring my other pet, Lupi the cat). I must mention that the following titles to Bambi la Brebis will ensure progress through gramatically challenging sentences. I would be extremely grateful if you could show an interest in my project as I am very keen to take off. I have tried to make the introduction as comprehensive as I could; but should you require further information, I shall be very happy to provide it. Many thanks in anticipation for browsing the attached. Kindest regards, Annie Ozanne.

You suggest that dragon stories may be based on finds of dinosaur fossils. My own view is that dragons are dinosaurs. The view that dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years is a modern myth which people are reluctant to let go of. Dinosaurs are mentioned in The Bible, and at least two species of dinosaur still exist today in remote areas of equitorial Africa.

Which part of this site did you find the most interesting?
I am a doglover and since being widowed twenty years ago have had a variety of dogs including a goldie who was sixteen and a half when he died! All my dogs have been rescued so far but I have promised myself a Goldie pup when I retire. I am particularly interested in Heelwork to Music but realise that it may be a long way ahead if I have a puppy. Can you recommend a good DVD?
Do you have any further comments?
I am interested in the info on publishing. I have not only written a children's novel but also the History of the Taunton Workhouse and copies of that were given to all the staff when the hospital closed. At the moment I am working on my own life story -- which a few people may find interesting!!!
Would you like to tell us something about yourself?
I am a retired Occupational Therapist who, after taking early retirement, have been working for the Leprosy Mission out in Dafur, Sudan. I am coming to Lewis in April for two weeks between the weddings of both my sons down in England! I feel that it will be a busy time. I just have 4 weeks holiday in the UK. Hopefully I finish with TLM after 4 years out here in September 2007.
I love the Hebrides. My son and his fiance have just "done up" the cottage and I do not know what they have done! That will be interesting.

Which part of this site did you find the most interesting?
I loved reading about your Papillons and Chihuahua.
Would you like to tell us something about yourself?
I am a retired health worker. One member of this household is Lady Chloe, a 15- year-old Chihuahua. I did Obedience with Chloe and also some agility. A delightful tough little dog we now call the matriarch. Chloe also introduced me to the dog world for which I am grateful as I have made some great friends. My Pap is Sprite who does agility and has gained quite a few titles. Sprite is black and white and has a great personality as do all paps. Another household member is is Woki, an 11 yr old mini schnauzer, who became the first mini to gain the highest award for agility in Australia and New Zealand. We also did obedience with Woki gaining titles there also.
I have taken an interest in dog dancing, or as sometimes called, heelwork to music, and will be going to our first group session on Friday night.
I will be watching your web site in future for Rooskie's progress.
I hope you enjoy your dog dancing. I am sure you will. Regarding Rooskie's progress. He now has his own diary which is updated every month. Rooskie's diary is placed at the foot of the Rooskie Press Newsletter so you will have to scroll to the last section every month. Mary

How did you find out about this site?
11 year old needs a historical fiction book to do a report on for school.
Which part of this site did you find the most interesting?
The extensive list of books and the detail in the book contents. Especially appreciated the age suggestions. My son does not like to read. I have a very difficult time in finding something for him that I think would interest him. This school year is rather difficult because his teacher insists on them reading so many different types of books. She is just trying to prepare them for middle school, but with his reluctance in trying to read it is very difficult.
Have you any other comments?
My first choice is Bud. Not Buddy by Christopher Curtis just because the review sounds so very interesting. They have an upcoming project in school where they will have to interview someone who lived in the depression era. This book may be a little too difficult. My second choice which I am going to try to locate is A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck. This one may be less difficult for him since he is eleven years old, well he will turn twelve tomorrow. The description on this book sounds like it may fit his skills and needs better.
Would you like to tell us something about yourself?
It is hard having a child who dislikes reading so much when I myself grew up reading and loving to read. Thank you for such an informative site that I could use to try and locate something I thought he would like.

Went under books and then Children of the New Forest
Have you any comments?
Your advertisement page says Children of the New Forest but yet I couldn't find anything on it. Why advertise and not put it on?
Comments from Mary Moffat.
I have taken note of your comments Gemma. When you said you went into my advertisement page I take it that you mean my page where I give details of the e-book -- the CD--ROM which contains my own Canine Cavalier together with Captain Marryat's classic Children of the New Forest. On this page I really just explain about the CD--ROM as e-books are something new which many people are still trying to come to terms with. But I have given full details of Children of the New Forest in my online Bibliography and, in view of your comments, I have now put a direct link from my e-book page to the full review of Children of the New Forest in the Bibliography section.
I hope you find this new arrangement satisfactory.
I always welcome constructive criticism and suggestions. Mary Moffat.

Your site was mentioned in a letter I received from the Editor of Write to Publish.
What part of this site did you find the most interesting?
All of it, as a writer of ghost stories myself, and an 'animal lover,' I enjoyed your ghost stories...I also like the way you tell us a little about where your inspiration comes from, -- your love of dogs and the pages about the Scottish coastline, which I'd imagine would be very interesting to people who come to the site having read your stories first.
Would you like to tell us something about yourself?
I write, I love travelling, and 'share' a West Highland White Terrier with my parents (or rather he lets us live under the same roof with him, for as long as we provide him with chicken and doggy chews, and slippers to run off with!)

I'd like to do the CD with Candy but need more information about on how to set about it (eg where and how with a small dog which only weighs five and a half pounds).
Would you like to tell us anything about yourself?
Apart from Candy I have a Basenji and am interested in most animals. I particularly like rabbits and used to have a Belgian Hare house rabbit. I'm keen on meeting people with other small dogs who are interested in training and the social side of it.

I am very proud to be featured so often. I shall put a link from my site to yours asap and tell the schools when I am visiting. Thank you too for the HNR. (Historical Novel Society). I was thrilled with Jan Shaw's review too. I hope the Andersen Press have sent you a preview copy of The Time Travelling Cat and the Roman Eagle. It IS the eagle which turned up in Calleva, Silchester, and is now in Reading Museum and so is the tile with the cat's paw print which was the starting point for my novel.
I think you know me quite well now. Thanks once again. Julia.

I am a self publishing author or do I mean a publisher who supplies her own raw material. Anything you particularly like to know? I've published two of my own novels after having a non fiction book published by someone else but I'm still struggling to make any kind of income at writing. I'm into history in a big way. I'll be at the London Book Fair next Sunday and Monday.

As I am planning a children's book based in Scotland you could help. Like so many authors I am finding it hard to get any mainstream publisher to give me a chance. But I have had stories and articles published. You will be interested to know that I have had dog articles and stories in mags like Dog World, Your Dog and Dogs Monthly.
Would you like to tell us something about yourself?
Guess I've already said it. I was a busy dentist and still have a column in a leading dental journal. I became aware of another kind of writing when the Sunday Express published five stories for children many years ago. I have tried many genres but I now wish to concentrate on children. Great fun. Having read one story as yet unpublished to 8 schools. Encouraging feedback. Over 100 pics and comments but children are honest. No such thing as tact.

What part of the site did you find the most interesting?
The reviews of books for older children. My kids, ages 11 & 14, enjoy historical fiction, but it is not always easy to find good books for that age range. We'd gone through most of Rosemary Sutcliff's books, so I was pleased to find so many reviews. Since I had read many of the books reviewed and concurred in the reviews, I know I can trust the others. Wonderful resource!

I am teaching in California and am putting together my curriculum for next year. I would like to know which books you suggest for independent reads, and which are good to read as a class. I am teaching in a classroom that is 4th-6th grade combined. I would like to have books for every level, including a few which everyone could read as a group.
